sometimes i write things about skyler and then i think wow what an intelligent thing to say i should put that in his journal
and then i never do because i'm a TOOL

well that comes to an end today. THINGS I WRITE ABOUT SKYLER:

blah blah family situation

Hmm... the reason why I wanted to do it is solely because I wanted to play Sora, but different. That's my only justification for changing him, tbh! As for the nature of the change itself... I was actually drawing a lot of inspiration from Sora's character arc from CoM and kind of from the first KH! If I wanted to play Skyler as the same kind of person Sora is as of current canon, he would have just moved to Locke City as an army brat who went to a lot of international schools and would be looking forward to another move in a year. Skyler's a proto-Sora from pre-KH with a decided lack of good friends. Sora's not all that complicated of a character, but the fact that he probably would have been a complete nobody from podunk nowhere if the Islands hadn't been destroyed is compounded upon again and again in the series. I'm just doing a variation on the theme, if you know what I mean!

The weird thing that sets Sora apart from other Keyblade wielders is the fact that he shouldn't have one. You're supposed to have a strong heart to have a keyblade, someone with a lot of character who's really in touch with their identity, and Sora's characterized as a simple, weak, bland unperson, albeit one who's generally a good person who loves his friends a lot. His strength of heart comes almost entirely from his friends; they're the ones who inspire him to do incredible things, to be stronger than he thought he could be, and give him enough heart power to wield the keyblade. While this works out really well for the universe at large, it still doesn't make him particularly amazing as a person. In fact, it's arguable that without another person inside his heart, Sora wouldn't really be anyone at all! He's REALLY suggestible and timid at his core, someone who REALLY loves the quo, but Ventus, I think, gave him some inner strength and a more sophisticated moral compass, and Riku always challenged him to aim for something higher than himself. And Kairi was just a great girl to fall in love with, let's not lie. So when the call came for him, he just needed a little polishing and a lot help in the heart area to become a great keyblade hero! That worked out well for him.

Basically, Sora isn't awesome! But his unlikely life made up of coincidences, being in the right place at the right time, having a particularly weird variation of non-life-threatening disassociation, and sheer luck made him awesome. If you took the same base person that Sora used to be - timid, simple, bland, kind of weak and suggestible, in love with his friends but also with being subpar, and with no real ambitions or goals or desire to have them but a desperate eagerness to please - and gave him TERRIBLE FUCKING FRIENDS and a mildly neglectful home life, you get Skyler. uou It was kind of a no brainer after that.

trip to the MATHIRLAND, getting along with ari, and the heart of him being a nasty fucker

i spent 8 cumulative hours crying drunkenly about skyler and this is what popped out the other end. it's a full disclosure of what i'm doing with skyler as of January 2014. my plurk is locked but if you wanna read it for some reason i guess i can c/p the whole thing here. it's awful and rambly tho
